John Bonner Named CSUDH Women's Basketball Interim Head Coach

CARSON -- John Bonner has been named the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's basketball interim head coach for the 2016-2017 season, it was announced by Athletics Director Jeff Falkner.  Bonner was hired as an assistant coach in September by Janell Jones, who vacated the position to join former CSUDH head coach Molly Goodenbour's staff at the University of San Francisco.

"I am confident in John's ability to lead our program through this time of transition and into the 16-17 season," begins Falkner.  "We are fortunate to have quality coaches, and even better, quality people like John and top assistant Jaleesa Ross ready and able to step up."

Prior to coming to Carson, Bonner was part of the women's basketball staff at Fresno Pacific, where he served since 2010.

During his tenure with the Sunbirds he was promoted to be the program's first full-time assistant in 2014 before taking over the program as the interim head coach in April of 2016.

As the lead assistant coach, Bonner played an integral role in coaching, recruiting, scouting and all other facets of the women's basketball program.

During his time at FPU, he helped the Sunbirds to a 12-8 conference record in 2013-14 the program's first winning record since 2002. He's also coached two All-Americans during his tenure.

Prior to joining the FPU staff, Bonner served as a student assistant for the Fresno State women's basketball team. During that tenure, he assisted with skill development and other aspects of the program, while being a part of multiple NCAA tournament teams.

"It is a great honor to have the opportunity to be a mentor to our team in this new role," says Bonner.  "I am thankful and have the utmost confidence that I will validate the trust that our Athletic Director, Jeff Falkner, and our Athletics Administration have placed in me, to not only provide consistency within our current team structure, but to also continue the development and implementation of holistic growth within our student athletes."

Bonner holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Master's in Counseling - Marriage & Family Therapy, both from Fresno State.
