Seventy-Five Toros Earn Spring 2013 Honor Roll Status

CARSON -- Men's basketball's Matt Cain earned straight As for the fourth-straight semester while softball's Veronica Vazquez and women's soccer's Lindsey Armstrong duplicated their perfect 4.0 GPAs from fall 2012 as six Toros earned perfect marks as part of 75 Toros achieving Athletics Honor Roll status for the spring 2013 semester.

Softball's Daisy Beltran, men's soccer's Carlos Garcia and women's soccer's Jennifer Ackerly rounded out the stellar scholars who earned straight As in spring.

Eight additional Toros earned at least a 3.80 GPA for a total of 14 student-athletes with the highest marks.

All 10 sports were represented in the spring tally as women's soccer placed the most selections on the list for the eighth-straight semester with 15 this term, with men's soccer a close second with 13 and baseball right behind with 12 this semester.

Softball placed 10 to round out the double-figure sports, with volleyball at nine, indoor/outdoor track and field at five, women's basketball and golf at four, and men's hoops at three.

Percentage wise, 56.3% of volleyball's roster earned honor roll status, edging out women's soccer (.536), softball (.526), men's soccer (.520) and golf (.500) as five of the 10 sports boasted at least half its roster making the spring honor roll.

Combined with 87 student-athletes making the fall honor roll, the total of 162 student-athletes making it to the honor roll in both semesters is the most number of honorees in a single academic year, breaking the mark of 158 set during the 2009-2010 academic year.
