Sanchez and Jimenez Named NFCA and Daktronics All-Americans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Despite having their 2013 season come to an end in the NCAA Super Regionals against No. 5 Humboldt State, the awards continue to come for Cal State Dominguez Hills' stellar combination as junior slugger Adriana Sanchez and senior pitcher Stephanie Jimenez both notched two All-America awards this afternoon.

Sanchez was named a 2nd-team All-American by both the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and Daktronics, while Jimenez earned NFCA 3rd-team and Daktronics Honorable Mention nods.

These All-America honors are the first and second for both Sanchez and Jimenez after both earned NFCA 1st-team and Daktronics 1st-team All-Region selections, with Jimenez being named the Daktronics West Region pitcher of the Year.

Sanchez was a dominating force in the CCAA, leading the league in hits per game and RBI per game, and finishing 2nd in slugging percentage, runs, hits, RBI, home runs, total bases and runs per game during the regular season en route to a 2nd-team All-CCAA honor and one CCAA Player of the Week nod.

The junior slugger was just as impressive in the postseason, clubbing three of her school record 20 home runs over the final three post-season games of the year as she finished with 26 multi-hit and 17 multi-RBI games, as well as a season- and team-best 14-game hitting streak.

In addition to establishing the team record for home runs, Sanchez also set single-season record for at-bats (201), batting average (.418), slugging percentage (.811), hits (84) and intentional walks (6), while tying the mark for home runs in a game (2).  Her 20 home runs hit this year is just eight away from tying the CSUDH career mark of 28, set over a three-year mark by former Toro All-American Emiley McEwen.

Jimenez, meanwhile, led the Toros to their ninth trip to the NCAA postseason, and their second-consecutive Super Regional hosting privilege.

In the circle, Jimenez finished her stellar senior campaign with a 1.63 ERA and a career-best 26 wins, tying her victory total from last year.  In 44 appearances, Jimenez tossed 270 innings, grabbing nine shutouts and picking up one save. She has struck out 232 batters, holding her opponents to a .209 average against her.

Jimenez earned 1st-team All-CCAA honors and was named the Worth/CCAA Softball Pitcher of the Week four times during the regular season, the most of any player of pitcher.  She leaves the circle as CSUDH's career leader in win (84), saves (18), strikeouts (686), innings pitched (1031.1) and shutouts (31), and its single-season leader in strikeouts (232), saves (6 twice) and shutouts (10).
