Matthew Young Named CCAA CO-Newcomer of the Year

CARSON -- Junior Matthew Young was named as one of four outfielders in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Conference to receive First-Team All-CCAA honors along with being named CO-Newcomer of the Year, it was announced by the CCAA office earlier today.

After a tie vote among the conference coaches, Young shares the honor with Ryan Goodbrand, junior right-handed pitcher from UC San Diego.

The reigning CCAA Player of the Week for hitting safely, scoring a run and connecting for an RBI in three of four games, Young was amongst the CCAA leaders to conclude the regular season, leading the league in stolen bases, ranking second in home runs and third in slugging percentage, while placing in the top 10 in batting average and hits.

Leading the CCAA the entire season in stolen bases, he is also ranked 28th in D-II as he swiped mulitple-bases six times, taking three bases in a single contest twice this season.

At the start of the season, the Moreno Valley native boasted an eight game hit streak, six of which were for multiple hits from February 11-24.

The centerfielder started in 46 games for the Toros, leading the club with a .357 average.  He led the team with 41 runs on 61 hits, including 18 multiple-hit games.  Young also recorded eight contest with two runs batted in and one with three RBI.
