Matthew Young Named First-Team ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region

CARSON -- Matthew Young had his name announced once again for his outstanding 2012 performance, with his most recent award coming earlier today as a First-Team American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-West Region selection.

Young has received a total of five post-season awards including 1st-team All-CCAA and CCAA Co-Newcomer of the Year.

This marks the junior's third All-Region nod after receiving 2nd-team honors by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), as well as making the Daktronics All-Region team.

His biggest accomplishment this season was his agressiveness on the bases.  He led the region with 28 stolen bases.  Among the rest of the outfielders, he also led with nine homeruns.  One other individual, Zach Steele of Northwest Nazarene, shared the lead with Young with nine homeruns.

He was also ranked second in the West with a slugging percentage of .630, with 61 hits this season he notched 13 doubles and three triples in addition to his homeruns.

With many fellow CCAA players named with 1st-team honors, Eli Davis of Cal State Stanislaus and Danny Susdorf of UC San Diego were two of the three outfielders selected to join Young on the list.
