No. 6 and Defending NCAA West Region and CCAA Champion Toros Picked to Finish Second in CCAA

The defending CCAA Champion Toros will begin defense of their 2009 title on the road on September 10
WALNUT CREEK -- One season removed from claiming their seventh California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament title and third crown in the last four years, the Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer team was picked to finish second behind arch-rival Sonoma State in a 2010 preseason poll amongst the league's head coaches.

The Toros, who made their second-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Quarterfinals after claiming their second NCAA Championship in 2008, are led by reigning CCAA Newcomer of the Year and two-time All-Region selection in redshirt sophomore keeper Markus Dickerson who led the CCAA in GAA and shutouts, as well as NSCAA 3rd-team All-Region junior forward Greg Piechota, who ended 2009 tied for 5th in goals and 7th in points in the league.

CSUDH, the defending NCAA West Region Champions and ranked No. 6 in the NSCAA preseason poll, received six votes to take the CCAA's South Division, with upstart CS San Bernardino taking home four votes, and Cal State L.A. and Cal Poly Pomona receiving one vote apiece.

The Seawolves, who fell in double-overtime to the Toros in last year's CCAA final, were the near unanimous choice to take the North division after receiving 10 of 12 possible votes, taking home six of the possible 12 tallies to claim the CCAA Tournament to three for the Toros.

Both schools were the top two vote-getters for reaching the CCAA Tournament, with the Coyotes receiving the third-most votes, and CSULA and CS Stanislaus tying for the fourth and final spot.

Officially beginning practice yesterday, the Toros kick off their 2010 season on Thursday, September 2, at home against Concordia, with first kick set for a 4:30 pm start in Toro Stadium, at the Home Depot Center's Track & Field Facility.
