CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills Director of Athletics Patrick Guillen and Head Athletic Trainer Tim McGuire were recognized for their combined 25 years of service to the University at the annual Staff Service Awards, held at Loker Student Union on July 15.

The duo was part of 104 total CSUDH staff members who were listed in the event's program and announced to the standing-room only audience, received a certificate before taking a photo with the Vice President of their respective department and CSUDH President Dr. Mildred García.

"My 15 years here have gone by in a blink, and I can honestly say that my time here has been the most rewarding in my life," begins Guillen.  "To see firsthand the impact we are able to make in the lives of not only our student-athletes but also all the students we come in contact with is what keeps me going.  CSUDH is home to me and my co-workers are my second family.  I wouldn’t change the past 15 years for anything.”

Guillen ended 2009-10 with his 15th year of service in the athletics department, including the last five as the Athletics Director.  Under his guidance, the department has witnessed unparalleled growth despite the state budget crisis, which has seen the Toros Scholarship Golf Classic reach unprecedented levels of success, the installation of baseball and softball bleachers, the addition of the Fitness Center, and the implementation of the Jaret "JT" Minami Memorial and Dave Yanai Scholarships, not to mention the CSUDH student-athletes continually surpassing their academic achievements as well as continuing their community service activities, highlighted this past year by nearly tripling CSUDH's contribution to Make-A-Wish, the CCAA's designated charity.

McGuire joined the athletics staff in 2000 as a certified trainer, and assumed the head trainer role in 2007.  Since then, the New York native has designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs that have dramatically reduced the number of injuries suffered during the course of competition, as well as having prevented the occurrence of said injuries, resulting in back-to-back appearances in Tampa by the soccer programs, home of the past two NCAA Final Fours.

"I'm ready for another 10," concluded McGuire, succinctly, and with a smile.

Overall, 35 staff members were recognized for 5 years of service, 27 for 10 years, 17 for 15 years, 16 for 20 years, 3 for 25 years, 4 for 30 years and 2 in Brenda Blow (Academic Resource Manager, CEIE) and Laura J. Robles (Interim Dean, CNBS) for 35 years of service each to the University.
