Track and Field Still in Search of Qualifying Mark at NCAA Outdoor Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Entering the 2010 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships with eight chances for All-America honors, the Cal State Dominguez Hills squad came up empty over the first two days of competition, failing to qualify for any final races thus far.  Two qualifying heats remain, with junior Chanel Parker and the 4x400 relay team as the final hopes for All-America honors.

The 4x100 relay got things started for the Toros yesterday evening, with the CSUDH quartet of Parker, Monikkia White, Dora Baldwin and Breionna Jackson placing 11th overall in the heats in a time of 46.33, just 0.16 seconds off the eighth and final qualifying mark.

Baldwin and Nancy Blake then looked to make their respective marks in the 400 meter dash, but finished in 15th and 22nd in times of 55.19 and 57.07, respectively, well off the time of 54.48 needed to qualify for Saturday's finals.

White nearly gave CSUDH its first Saturday participant in the 100 meter dash, but placed 12th overall in a time of 11.93, 15ths of a second off the final qualifying time.

Today's events commenced with the 200 meter dash where the dynamic duo of White and Parker looked for placement on Championship Saturday, but the duo brought up the rear in each's preliminary heat, with White's 25.20 and Parker's 25.46 well behind the final qualifying time of 24.13.

Parker's 100-hurdle heat and the 4x400 relays were delayed until Saturday night.

Stay tuned for those results tomorrow night.
