Junior Ryan Indovina capped his debut season with PING honorable mention All-America honors
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. -- The post-season honors continue to roll in for junior Ryan Indovina, who earned a Division II PING honorable mention All-America honor, it was announced earlier by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
This accolade comes after earning 1st-team PING All-Region honors last week, and 1st-team All-CCAA and the CCAA Newcomer of the Year after the regular season's conclusion, with the latter marking the first-ever Newcomer of the Year honor for a CSUDH golfer.
Establishing himself as the top golfer on the Carson campus throughout the 2010 season and one of the top golfers in the league, Indovina also earned the CCAA Golfer of the Week honor after his debut tournament.
In seven meets, Indovina placed four top 10 finishes and two top 20, including medal honors in a dual match against UC San Diego, two runner-up finishes and a third-place finish, as well as one CCAA Player of the Week honor. He averaged just over par in 19 rounds played entering the Super Regional, carding a low 18 score of 67, a low 36 score of 140 and a low tournament tally of 210.
As an individual at the NCAA Regionals, Indovina came within one stroke of qualifying for the NCAA National Golf Championships, finishing with a total of 220 and in a 6-way tie for ninth place.
Indovina's honor is the third all-time in the golf program's history, following Pat Burke and Mack Smith, both of whom earned All-America honors in 1985.
Division II PING All-America honorees encompassed a total of 49 players across eight regions, East, Atlantic, Southeast, South, Midwest, South Central, Central and West, with nine being named to the first team, eight each to the second and third teams, and 22 honorable mentions.
Of those, Gene Webster from CSUSB made the first-team, Kyle Souza from Chico Staet earned second-team honors, Patrick Bauer from Sonoma State and Brandon Taylor from CS Stanislaus qualified for third-team nods, with CSUS' Trevor Blair, CSUC's Lucas Delgado and Sylvvester Gama, SSU's Janssen Todd and CS Monterey Bay's Scott Yeakel joining Indovina as honorable mentions.
