CCAA MVP Emiley McEwen and the Toros were left out of the NCAA postseason
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Despite a strong second-half of the regular season, as well as wins over eventual CCAA Champion Sonoma State and Chico State in the CCAA Tournament, teams that both qualified for the upcoming NCAA West Region, Cal State Dominguez Hills was bumped by GNAC automatic qualifier Central Washington for the eighth and final spot as announced today by the NCAA, ending the Toros 2010 campaign.

CSUDH, which finished its season at 31-19, posted a 23-13 ledger over the final three months of competition, including a split at UC San Diego in early April and a 3-1 series win over CS Monterey Bay the following weekend, both teams that were ranked higher than the Toros at the time of competition.

Despite the 5-3 mark, CSUDH remained at No. 10 until the second-to-last poll of the season that came after the regular season finale when the Toros leapt to the No. 8 spot entering the CCAA Tournament.

In making its first appearance in the four-team tourney, CSUDH took down then No. 3-seeded Sonoma State by a 9-1 count in the opening game, and then defeated No. 6-seeded Chico State in game two.  Needing just one win to gain the league's automatic qualifier into the West Region Tournament, SSU regrouped to take two from the Toros to claim the title and the conference's automatic qualifier, leaving CSUDH with a 2-2 record over the weekend.

Hoping to move up at least one spot after two wins against higher-seeded opponents, CSUDH remained at No. 8 and Chico State No. 6 despite the Wildcats posting a 1-2 record that included a heads-up loss to the Toros.

CSUDH bade farewell to six seniors in 2010, including four of the 4-year variety, but returns their two stellar freshmen pitchers and CCAA MVP Emiley McEwen, looking to make a return appearance to the NCAA postseason in 2011.
