Record 82 Toros Named to Athletics Honor Roll for Fall 09

CARSON -- Coming off an NCAA runner-up finish in women's soccer and CCAA tournament berths for both basketball programs, the "student" portion of "student-athlete" made its presence felt in a big way as a record 82 student-athletes were named to the CSUDH athletics fall 2009 honor roll, highlighted by perfect 4.0 GPAs by cross country's #Janette Morfin# (left), men's soccer's #Scott Locken# (center) and volleyball's #Heather Rushton# (right).

The 82 student-athletes named surpasses fall 2008's total when 78 were named, and spring 2009's total that saw 76 Toros make the honor roll.

Rushton, a biology major and 08-09 CSUDH Presidential Scholar, Locken, a kinesiology major from Huntington Beach, and Morfin, a kinesiology major from Los Angeles, led 11 total Toros who achieved at least a 3.80 GPA in the fall.

Rushton, in fact, maintained her perfect grades, giving her three-consecutive semesters of perfect 4.0s since she entered CSUDH as a freshman last year.

Ten of CSUDH's 11 sports were represented on the fall honor roll list with at least three recipients each, led by the baseball team which topped all Toro squads with 16 athletes named.  Women's basketball followed with 12, with men's soccer's, women's soccer's and volleyball's 11 each, softball's eight, track and field's seven, and three each by men's basketball and cross country rounding out the fall honorees.
