Amber Angel Named Worth/CCAA Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK -- Senior first baseman Amber Angel was named the Worth/CCAA Player of the Week for the week of March 1-7, it was announced by the CCAA Office.  An offensive juggernaut, Angel batted .583 (7-for-12), with a 1.500 slugging percentage as the Toros took 3-of-4 from host CS Stanislaus last week.

This is Amber's first CCAA Player of the Week award.

The senior first baseman reached base successfully in 7 of 8 at-bats in the first twinbill of the series, belting 3 doubles in the opener to tie the CSUDH single-game record for doubles, before belting a home run and drawing three unintentional intentional walks in the nightcap in which she saw just 15 pitches in those three at-bats.  Angel scored the game-winner in the first game as she hit .800 with a 2.000 slugging percentage (including a 4.000 SLG% in the nightcap) and an .875 OB%.

The next day, Angel belted 3 hits in 7 at-bats, including a triple and a home run as CSUDH swept the Warriors, including a comeback of epic proportions in the nightcap. After taking a relatively easy 7-1 win in the opener in which an Angel RBI triple accounted for the game's first run, she went 2-for-4 in the nightcap that saw CSUS jump out to a 4-0 lead entering the seventh frame, only to have the Toros erupt for eight runs on seven hits in their seventh-inning at-bat.  Angel did her part by solidifying the comeback as the eighth batter in the frame, belting a 2-run shot for the final two runs of the inning.

On the weekend, Angel batted .583, and slugged 1.500, accounting for 50% of her team's home runs and triples, 40% of the walks, 37.5% of the extra base hits, 31% of the total bases, 30% of the doubles, 25% of the RBI and 21% of the total hits as the Toros took 3-of-4 from the host Warriors in Turlock.

Additionally, she hit for the cycle in the series (single, double, triple, home run), posted a slugging percentage beyond 1.000 in all four games, and was flawless in the field, handling all 18 chances that came her way, with 3 assists.

The Toros, 13-9, 8-8 CCAA, begin a four-game set against Cal State East Bay on Friday, with first pitch of game one set for a 1:00 pm start on Toro Diamond.
