Bret Montgomery Clinches Third Career Wilson/CCAA Pitcher of the Week Nod

WALNUT CREEK -- Cal State Dominguez Hills right-hander Bret Montgomery has been named the Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 1-7, it was announced on Monday.  This marks Montgomery's third career award and second of the 2010 season.

Montgomery, a senior from Thousand Oaks, Calif., tossed a complete-game seven-inning one-hitter against Sonoma State on Saturday.

He allowed just one walk and struck out nine in facing just one batter over the minimum. Montgomery no-hit the Seawolves for 6.1 innings, before allowing a single with one out in the seventh.  After the single Montgomery proceeded to strike out the following two batters in a 9-0 win.

His outing included three innings with two strikeouts and at least one strike out in six of seven innings.

The award is the third time in his career he has been named the Pitcher of the Week (PiOW), the second coming earlier this season as Montgomery logged the fifth no-hitter in CSUDH baseball history.

Only one other Toro hurler has been named the PiOW three times before, Kevin Halamicek grabbed the award twice in 2001 and once in 2000.

Cal State Dominguez Hills returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Chapman in a non-conference game at 2:00pm.
