Neka Mixon Nabs Second NCAA/Daktronics All-West Region Award

CARSON -- For the second straight year Neka Mixon grabbed an NCAA/Daktronics All-West Region award, being named to the second-team after an impressive 2009-10 season in which she was a force not only for the Toros but in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), her second in the Cardinal & Gold.

Mixon was one of only four CCAA student-athletes selected to the All-West region teams, joining Chelsea Carlisle (UC San Diego), Brittney Taylor (Humboldt State) and Reyana Colson (Cal Poly Pomona).

Leading her team in scoring, Mixon tallied a 45.9% shooting mark with 297 points and 17.5/game.  Mixon was a threat in the CCAA as well, taking the No. 2 spot in scoring.

Throughout the season Mixon grabbed six double-doubles and scored in double-digits in 15 of her 17 appearances with eight 20+ scoring games.

After only two years Mixon has left her mark on the Toro record book with three single-game, three single-season and one career record so far.  A recent highlight came on February 5 of this year as Mixon put up 33 points against Cal State East Bay, No. 2 on the single-game chart.

The award is one more feather in Mixon's cap, earlier this year she was named a 1st-Team All-CCAA selection.  Last season Mixon was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year and to the  2nd-Team NCAA/Daktronics All-West Region.
