Gomez Gives Toros 4th-Straight Win in 1-0 Decision Over CS Stanislaus
Bookmark and Share

CARSON -- Freshman Yadira Gomez collected a loose ball that deflected off the back of a teammate's head deep in visiting CS Stanislaus' zone, and sent a screamer that hit top shelf for the game's first and only goal in CSUDH's 1-0 win over a game Warrior squad, lifting the Toros to their 4th-straight win.

The Toros dominated from the start, taking a 7-1 shot advantage in the first half alone en route to an overall 12-3 edge, although both defenses and keepers kept the other team out of the net.

That all changed a minute into the second half as an attempted Warrior clear deflected off the back of Britney Vance's head, right to a waiting Gomez six yards out.  With CSUS keeper Jessica Sitarz in between her and the goal, Gomez fired a 45-degree rocket that hit the middle of the top of the net, giving the Toros all the scoring they eventually would need.

Sitarz finished with 2 saves on the night, compared to 3 by Toro counterpart Alyssa Congdon.

With the win, CSUDH remains undefeated in all 17 games against the Warriors, running their record to a perfect 17-0 all-time.

CSUDH continues CCAA home action on Sunday against north division leader Chico State, with first kick set for 11:30 am.
