Six Season-Best Times Posted at UC Riverside Cross Country Invitational

RIVERSIDE -- Six of seven Toro runners posted a season-best time in a 5k race today at the UC Riverside Invitational, led by freshman Erica Biehl with a time of 19:50, shaving 39-seconds off her previous 5k mark. Despite the six standout performances, the Toros dropped to the rear of the mostly D-I field, coming in last place as a team.

Biehl's time would land her in 176th place, far behind first-place runner Jacky Kipwambock of Azusa Pacific, who led the race with a time of 16:29. The CCAA landed one runner in the top-top as Vivian Wadeck of Cal State L.A. grabbed eighth-place with a time of 17:17.

Coming in a close second to Biehl was Gabriela Rubi, posting a time of 20:23 at 188th-place. Rubi was the only Toro in the race to not improve her 5k time, previously she finished with a 19:34 at UC Irvine.

The last five times for CSUDH were all improvements on the season with Dora Baldwin finishing with 21:23 (203rd), Destiny Tyler at 22:42 (214th), Janette Morfin at 22:47 (215th), Ines Mendoza at 22:58 (216th) and Nidia Padilla at 23:05 (217th).

Overall, CSUDH posted a team average of 21:25, dropping 41-seconds off their previous average of 22:06 in a 5k.

The Toros will take a break before competing next at the 20th Annual Vanguard Invitational hosted by Vanguard University on October 10. The 6k race begins at 9:00am in Costa Mesa, Calif.
