Parker Garners Second 2009 All-American Award at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Chanel Parker
San Angelo, TX -- With a time of 13.97, Chanel Parker placed seventh in a field of eight runners in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships to grab her second All-American award this year and the eighth for the Toros in 2008-09.

Though not improving on yesterday's preliminary time of 13.92, Parker was able to improve on her placement in the race from No. 8 to No. 7.  Parker still stands as the 10th fastest runner in CSUDH history in the 100-meter hurdles with yesterday's time of 13.92.

"It feels great", said an ecstatic Parker after the race. "I got a new personal record [yesterday], and I improved my place by one so I am happy and not disappointed at all."

Top honors in the race went to Shermaine Williams of J. C. Smith University whose time of 12.95 is a new record in the NCAA Championships.  Fellow CCAA athlete Laiah Blue of UC San Diego also grabbed an All-American award with a time of 13.70, good for fifth place.

The second award for Parker this year, who grabbed her first at the Indoor Championships earlier in 2009, Parker is the sole track & field athlete to receive the honor in 2009.

With the 2009 season now in the books for Parker and the track & field season there is much to do in preparation for next year. "Now I am going to focus on my sprints in the off-season to try and benefit my hurdles and course the dashes and 4x100 realy", says Parker when looking ahead."

For head track & field coach Warren Edmonson, the second All-American this year is much to be proud of. "She got a lifetime best so at this time her future looks very bright", he says after the race.

"With my new additions for next year we will be very strong so I couldn't be happier for Parker and what she will bring", Edmonson closes.
