Jessica Murphy Earns NSCAA 2nd-team All-America Honors

Jessica Murphy capped a stellar 2009 campaign with NSCAA 2nd-team All-America honors
KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Scoring sensation Jessica Murphy was named a 2nd-team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to cap a stellar 2009 campaign in which the super-sophomore led the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team to the 2009 NCAA Championship game.

This is Murphy's first All-America award of her career.

The Torrance native adds this award to a litany of prior postseason accolades that included NSCAA 2nd-team All-Region, Daktronics 1st-team All-Region, NCAA Final Four All-Tournament Team and 1st-team All-CCAA honors.

Murphy was amongst the CCAA Conference league leaders with 15 goals (2nd in the CCAA), 6 assists (10th), 36 points (4th), and 4 game-winning goals (6th), all on the road.  Starting all 27 games played, the Torrance native tallied 5 multi-goal contests, including 2 scores in the 5-2 NCAA quarterfinal win over No. 13 West Texas A&M on November 22, also connecting on both Toro PK attempts in the regular season.

Currently a four-time All-Region selection and two-time 1st-team All-CCAA honoree, Murphy sits tied for 6th in the CSUDH record books for goals and T10th in points in a career, also holding the 8th and 9th spots for goals, and 9th and 10th positions for points in a single season.

Unbeaten in its first three NCAA postseason contests heading into the Final Four, the Toros advanced in another PK shootout over the top-ranked team in the nation in West Florida, before a 1-0 loss to No. 3 Grand Valley State ended their season at 16-9-3.

NCAA Final Four participants West Florida and St. Rose shared team honors with four selections each on the three All-America teams, while Franklin Pierce, Massachusetts-Lowell and NCAA National Champion Grand Valley State all had two players named.

The West Region had just three players selected amongst the three All-America squads, with UC San Diego's Lisa Bradley claiming 1st-team honors, and Seattle Pacific's Jocelyn Charette joining Murphy on the 2nd team.
