SAN ANGELO, Texas -- Sophomore defender Paige Peel capped a remarkable team season with a significant individual honor - a Daktronics Honorable Mention All-America award, the first such honor of her career.

The Bakersfield native, who helped lead the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team to the 2009 NCAA Title game, adds this accolade to her Daktronics 1st-team All-Region, NSCAA 3rd-team All-Region, 2nd-team All-CCAA and CCAA All-Tournament team awards garnered during the 2009 postseason.

Peel, the lone Toro to start all 28 games played, established herself as a force on the backline in her sophomore campaign after helping the Toros post 10 shutouts and hold opponents to just a single goal in 10 other contests, including both the NCAA semifinal and championship contests.

Individually, Peel scored two goals on the season, a game-winner at CS Monterey Bay on September 20 in which she also added an assist, and against UC San Diego in the CCAA Championship Tournament semifinal in which the Toros advanced 5-3 in a penalty kick shootout.

Peel's selection marks the first All-America honor for a women's soccer player since the 2003 season, when standout Sarah Gibson earned 2nd-team honors.

Unbeaten in its first three NCAA postseason contests heading into the Final Four, the Toros advanced in another PK shootout over the top-ranked team in the nation in West Florida, before a 1-0 loss to No. 3 Grand Valley State ended their season at 16-9-3.

West Florida's Shakira Duncan led a contingent of five Argonauts on the 1st-team and two on the 2nd to lead the schools, while NCAA National Champion Grand Valley State boasted four players on the All-America teams.

The teams were selected by sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences. First-team All-Region picks from eight regions advanced to the national ballot. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 23 different institutions filled out the three All-America teams with an additional 17 players earning honorable mention.

Under-represented, the West Region saw just six players make the teams, led by Cal State L.A.'s Liz Franco, who earned 2nd-team honors.  CSULA's Amanda Matthews, Sonoma State's Lindsay Catton and Seattle Pacific's Jocelyn Charette and Taylor Sawyer joined Peel as Honorable Mention selections.
