Toros Women's Cross Country Closes Out 2009 Season at NCAA West Regionals

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills shaved over a minute off their team average in a 6k race as Gabriela Rubi paced the Toros at the NCAA West Regionals in San Francisco with a team-high time of 24:13, placing her 99th in the field of NCAA Division II runners.

Rubi's time is seven seconds behind her season best time of 24:06, performed at the CCAA Championships a few weeks earlier this season.

Close behind Rubi, Erica Biehl came across the line with a time of 24:31, her best time on the season in a 6k race.

Leading the race was two-time defending NCAA National Champion Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific University with a finish time of 20:08.

As a team, the University of Alaska-Anchorage captured the overall title, racing with an average time of 21:59.

The Toros enjoyed a 3:41 time spread between their five runners bolstered by season-best times from Dora Baldwin (26:25), Nidia Padilla (26:47) and Ines Mendoza (27:54).

The race marks the end of a successful 2009 season for the Toros.
