CARSON -- Nearing the end of a frustrating volleyball season, the Toros showed tremendous heart in playing set two neck-and neck with perennial power and visiting Cal Poly Pomona before an eventual 25-11, 26-24, 25-18 loss, bringing them to 1-26, 1-19 CCAA.  Madison Horsley tallied a team-best 10 kills on the night.

The Broncos took charge of set one early, taking a 7-3 lead on a Karissa Lagmay putaway before running off 18 of the next 26 points in the 25-11 win.

Set two proved entirely different, however, as Horsley and Ashley Clark teamed up to post 10 kills on 30 swings, forging 11 ties in the set, even coming from behind to take a 23-22 lead on a Rebecca Raymond bomb, before three Pomona kills gave the Broncos a 26-24 lead after two.

In the third, CPP again pulled away early, taking a 19-8 lead on a Kristin McNeese blast, the first of four-consecutive points on the serve of Lindsey Poulos.

The Toros mounted a comeback on three-consecutive CPP errors to bring their deficit to just 23-15.  After the Broncos earned match point on a McNeese kill, a putaway by Ashley Davison preceded two CPP errors to give the Toros hope at 24-18, but the final of Lagmay's 14 kills ended any hopes of a CSUDH comeback, giving CPP the set 25-18, and the match, 3-0.

Lagmay led all players with 14 kills on .440 hitting, tying Hilary Hougardy for game-high dig honors with 12 each.

As a team, the Broncos outhit the Toros .284 to .137, though CSUDH earned a .262 to .250 advantage in the middle set.

The Toros conclude their 2009 campaign next week, hosting Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State on Thursday and Friday, November 12 and 13, with first serve for both matches set for 7:00 pm in the Torodome.
