Lumberjacks Cut Down Toros in 3-2 Homecoming Loss
10/16/2009 2:08:02 PM
Box Score
CARSON -- Even with wins in sets two and four, the Cal State Dominguez Hills volleyball team was unable to secure a match victory during Homecoming 2009 as the Humboldt State Lumberjacks struggled before eventually securing a 3-2 win.
Samantha Maxwell
posted her third double-double of the season with 21 kills and 15 digs.
After a tough 25-20 loss in set one, the Toros eventually regained control in set two to grab a 25-23 win following a tie at 22-22.
Ashley Clark
landed three kills to score three of the final four points.
CSUDH kept up the same pressure in set three but were unable to follow through with a win as Humboldt landed 18 kills, their most in a set on the night, with six coming from Callan Finney.
With the score once again tied at 22-22 in set four,
Cambrea Horn
and Maxwell used two timely kills to finish off the 'Jacks at 26-24.
After four sets, the Toros did not have the energy to grab a final win as the 'Jacks used too many point streaks to grab a 15-9 win from a Lesley Kalbrener kill, one of only two kills on the day from her.
Maxwell led the offensive thrust for the Toros with 21 kills while Clark came through with 17. Finney tallied 20 kills on the night to lead HSU.
Overall, CSUDH outdug HSU by a scant two digs, 89-to-87. Leading the Toro defense was
Hilary Hougardy
with 26 digs.
The loss drops the Toros to a 1-19 overall record (1-12 CCAA).
The Toros will next see action tomorrow night as they host the No. 17 Seawolves of Sonoma State as part of 'Brest Cancer Awareness Night'. Come out and support your Toros, who will be in pink, as they sell tickets for $1 for a raffle with all proceeds benefiting breast cancer research.
