San Jose, CA -- Former Toro All-American and current San Jose Earthquakes forward Kei Kamara was named to the roster for Sierra Leone for four upcoming World Cup qualifying matches.  The third-year player traveled Tuesday to his home country to begin preparations for the four matches in June.

Kamara and Sierra Leone first play Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, June 1 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.  Sierra Leone then returns home for two straight games, taking on Nigeria on Saturday, June 7 and South Africa on Saturday, June 14.  Both home matches will be played in Freetown.  The final match of the month for Sierra Leone takes place on Saturday, June 21 in Kimberley, South Africa against the Bafana Bafana.

The Lawndale native will be attempting to earn his first cap with the national team during this trip.  He attended a training camp with Sierra Leone for the first time last December, but did not make an appearance in a game.

The former Cal State Dominguez Hills star is expected to miss the Quakes matches on May 31 at Real Salt Lake, June 7 at Columbus Crew, June 14 vs. Los Angeles Galaxy, June 18 at Real Salt Lake and June 22 at D.C. United.

Kamara, who prepped at Leuzinger High School, has scored two goals this season for San Jose to lead the team in scoring. He netted a goal against the Colorado Rapids on April 19 and then scored against the Houston Dynamo on May 22.  He has scored seven goals in his MLS career.

During his college career, Kamara was named an NSCAA 3rd-team All-American after his sophomore campaign prior to being selected as the 9th overall pick in the Major League Soccer draft on January 20, 2006.  Kamara also earned two 1st-team All-Region selections and two 1st-team All-CCAA honors in his two years as a Toro, as well as the CCAA MVP award as a redshirt freshman in the 2004 season.
