Los Angeles, CA - The Toros 4 x 400 meter relay team took advantage of its last opportunity before the NCAA Championships, coming in first at the Oxy Invitational yesterday, hosted by Occidental College.
The quartet of Monique Joseph, Deirdra Pettigrue, Brigayle Iglehart, and Janelle Millner not only lowered their provisional mark with a time of 3:50.22, placing with 18th in the country, but did so by crushing the competition by finishing nearly nine seconds ahead of UC Santa Barbara, Concordia University, and Point Loma Nazarene.
The lone single competitor in the competition for the Toros was junior distance runner Liliana Yera, who turned in a season best in the 1,500 meter run in her final meet of the year.
Yera ended her season with a time of 5:23.19, shaving two seconds off her previous best set at the Cal-Nevada Championships over a month ago.
CSUDH looks to send the 4 x 400 meter relay team to compete against the best at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Mt. Sac next weekend, along with relay leg runner Pettigrue, who will be the lone Toro competing in individual competition in the 200-meter dash as the top freshman in the country.
