Freshman Kevin Castillo Finishes Strong for CSUDH as Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate Concludes

Bakersfield, CA -- Freshman Kevin Castillo charged back from three strokes down to finish two shots ahead of teammate Kevin Ritter and in an 18th-place tie as the second and final day of the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate came to an end at the Bakersfield Country Club, hosted by Cal State Bakersfield.
After shooting 6- and 4-over par over the first two rounds yesterday, Castillo matched his second round total of 76 this morning to total 230 while Ritter fired an 81 this morning to account for the 2-stroke difference, and Ritter's 20th-place tie and 232.
Of the four Toros whose scores counted in the team competiton, three fired at least one round in the 70s including senior Raphael Malabanan's 77 in round two yesterday en route to his 25th-place finish and 247 total.
Senior Matt Giamberdino shot in the low 80s over his three rounds to conclude the tournament in 24th place with a 246, as the Toros placed 5th in team competition with a 954 amongst five non-Division I teams entered.
Individually, Point Loma Nazarene's Sam Cyr and Brandan Kelly both shot even par to finish tied for the lead at 216, while Chico State held on to the team lead as the Wildcats finished with a +17 score of 881 to take the team title.
The Toros return to action in three weeks for the Cal State Monterey Bay tournament, scheduled for April 7-8.
