Men Up to No. 6 & Women at No. 25 in This Week's NSCAA Rankings
Mission, KS -- On the heels of three total victories last week, both Cal State Dominguez Hills men’s and women’s soccer teams find themselves in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s latest Top 25 poll, with the Toro men moving up seven spots to No. 6, while the Toro women check in at No. 25, it was announced this morning by the NSCAA.

The men’s team, which also holds the top spot in the NSCAA’s west region poll, boast a 9-2 overall and 5-1 CCAA record, and have won nine of its last 10 games, including a 2-1 victory over then No. 6-ranked Seattle Pacific University last Saturday.  Led by senior forward Sammy Rivas, who has a team-best 7 goals and 4 assists, and sophomore keeper Derby Carrillo, who boasts a miniscule 0.44 goals against average and 6 shutouts, the Toros have outscored their opponents 25-3 in their nine wins, allowing just 8 total goals on the year.

The women’s team, which hosts Western Washington tonight at 7 pm, are led by forwards Corrie Hirokawa and Kelly Matosian, who have combined for 12 goals and seven assists, and keeper Alyssa Congdon, who has allowed just two goals in seven games played en route to a minute 0.29 GAA.  Currently tied with WWU for the 4th spot the west region poll, CSUDH has reeled off five-consecutive shutouts, and boasts a six-game unbeaten streak, including a double-overtime 0-0 draw against then No. 2-ranked UC San Diego on September 19.

The Sonoma State men are the only other CCAA school to make the top 25 list at No. 21, while Seattle, at No. 13, is the only other west region school on the list.

On the women’s side, UCSD maintains its top 5 inclusion at No. 4, while Seattle Pacific at No. 3 and Seattle at No. 15 are the only other west region squads to make the top 25.

After tonight’s women’s match-up against WWU, both teams take to the road for consecutive CCAA weekends, highlighted by Friday’s men’s showdown at No. 21 Sonoma State, followed by a key women’s match-up at No. 4 UC San Diego on October 10.
